Giving Tuesday

NEKASAN, along with 5 organizations also supporting asylum seekers in the state of Vermont, is gearing up for GivingTuesday2020!  Please consider offering your financial support to this collaborative, state-wide effort, on December 1st.

People who seek asylum in the United States are fleeing persecution and violence in their countries of birth, only to encounter the same in U.S. detention facilities. Moreover, it has become more and more difficult for these families and individuals to pursue their legal rights to asylum, forcing them into longer and longer waiting periods before having their case scheduled on the court docket.  Community organizations across the state of Vermont, in partnership with regional efforts, are working to empty ICE detention centers one family at a time. As we work to offer asylum-seekers a safe and peaceful place to live and to make our state a welcoming community that lives out its stated values, the arrival of new Vermonters enriches our community life together.  Thank you for making your donation on Giving Tuesday to help us welcome asylum seekers to communities across Vermont.

NEKASAN is a founding member of the Vermont-New Hampshire Asylum Support Network (VTNHASN). This network is comprised of 9 community-based asylum support groups in Vt & NH who work together to foster collaboration, share best practices, build capacity, raise public awareness of the issues involved in seeking asylum , and advocate for policies and funding that support our collective work and the asylum seekers with whom we work.
